miquel bezares was born on 17th February, 1968, in Llucmajor (Mallorca). During the late 80s and early 90s in Llucmajor, he was co-publisher, together with Biel Thomàs, of a series of publications dedicated to art and poetry, Edicions Atàviques. In 1990 he won the Bartomeu Rosselló-Pòrcel Award organized by the Obra Cultural Balear, "due to his original and very valuable contribution to Catalan literature and to developing an awareness of the Catalan culture (sic)". In 1991 he finished his degree in Catalan Language and Literature at the Universitat de les Illes Balears. Since then he has been working as a teacher of Catalan Language and Literature at a high school in Mallorca.

 

miquel bezares has been awarded the following literary prizes:

  • In 1989 he won the Ciutat de Palma Poetry Award for his book Carnaval.
  • In 1991 he won the Josep Munteis Poetry Award ( part of the Ciutat d'Olot Awards) for his book Crònica del desfici.
  • In 1996 he won third prize in the Short Story Literary Competition organized by the local newspaper, Diario de Mallorca, for the story Caragols i despertars.
  • In 1998 he won the Bearn Narrative Award for his work Susannes.
  • In 1999 he was finalist in the first edition of the On Line Stories Awards, organized by TVC, Grup 62 and the Generalitat de Catalunya's Comissionat per a la societat de la informació, for his short story Quietuds llogades.
  • In 2001 he won the Marià Vayreda Narrative Award (part of the Ciutat d'Olot Awards) for his book Quan els avions cauen.
  • In 2003 he won the Miquel de Palol Poetry Award (part of the Girona Awards) for his book El convers.
